Various Markings Through Different Marking Methods

When applying the color change method, the energy of the laser beam changes the optical properties of existing pigments. The surface remains virtually unchanged. As the material is changed down to a depth of 200 µm, the marking is remarkably durable and abrasion-proof. Adding of laser-sensitive pigments can improve contour sharpness and contrast of the markings.

Foaming, a partial degradation creating gas-bubbles within certain polymers, scatters the light and produces light marks.

CO2 lasers achieve similar marking results like hot stamping which only becomes visible by the shadow of the engraving. An effect which is desired for certain applications like marking of audio and data compact discs.
