Welding
Whether in standard welding systems, customer-specific system technology or as a replacement for conventional welding techniques, the fiber laser with performance in the 500 W to 2000 W range, has a multitude of uses. The wide selection of fiber diameters and modular optics design make it easy to match required weld geometries. Also important during welding are the beam quality, the absorptivity in metals (process efficiency) and the operating costs - parameters that fiber laser meets both economically and effectively.
Cutting
High-speed cutting of thin sheet metal is a clear plus for fiber lasers. They are easy to integrate into 3D systems as 5-axis machines or robots, which make fiber lasers an ideal addition to traditional CO
2 laser cutting, those covering the entire range of plate thicknesses. For example, highly reflective materials such as copper and brass can be cut perfectly using fiber lasers.
Brazing
In brazing applications the beam quality is less important. In this case the fiber laser is convincing with it's high efficiency. It towers over other technologies in this field, where. The flexible beam guidance in optical fibers and therefore simple combination with cold or hot wire feeding, makes the fiber laser the ideal tool across its entire spectrum of applications.
Cladding
The CAD-based creation of prototypes, production samples and series components, the repair of moulds and the manufacture of low-wear tools are all possible due to the coaxial feed of metal powder and laser light. Special highlight: The variety of optical fibers that can be used and associated spot diameter allows processing of fine to coarse structures.
Hardening
Lasers with wavelengths in the 1 µm range offer the best solution when it comes to selective hardening. The closed loop control of surface temperatures avoids unwanted melting. Special lenses are used between the beam source and the workpiece to provide an image of the required hardening track, geometry and depth as well as the degree of hardness. Highly efficient, special techniques for certain applications give fiber lasers, a clear advantage.
