Opening aids in packaging - traditionally
achieved through mechanical processes like
the embossing of a corner - demand the
application of significant initial force on the
part of the user and produce irregular tears.
Easy Opening, the selective weakening of
packaging film by laser, is a clearly superior
method. Laser systems like the StarScribe
WD make clever use of the varying optical
properties of layers of film. They selectively
weaken the mechanically supporting layers
without damaging others, such as those sealing
off light and moisture. The wrapping
always tears exactly along the lasered line.
The process is stable enough to be easily
implemented into industrial mass production.
Contactless and wear-free, it guarantees a
high process reliability even at high speeds.
High-volume production
StarScribe WD (web direction) is an extremely
high performance system that can be
integrated into slitter rewinders of all established
manufacturers. Working with CO2 lasers
of up to 2000 watts and up to eight processing
heads the system is particularly well suited
for the high-volume production of scribing
structures along the winding direction.
Additionally, StarScribe WD lends itself to cutting
films. Whether continuous or broken lines,
any scribing structures can be synchronised
with printed marks on the film. The system
works with a web width of up to 1600 mm
and is prepared for laser class 1 security.
A complete family of systems
StarScribe WD is part of a broad range of
solutions. From the startup system StarScribe
Easy, to StarScribe CW (specialised for
'cross web', i.e. scribing structures perpendicular
to the winding direction), to PerfoLas-
Film for the perforation of films.
