Conventionally, flat glass is mostly cut by a scribing and subsequent breaking process during which micro cracks occur along the scribing line impairing the bending strength of glass substrates significantly. With the patented MLBA method, a YAG laser heats up the entire glass volume with 1064 nm fundamental wavelength by absorbing the laser radiation several times. A defined tension profile is induced through heating up the glass and thus creates a clear cut. Here, we talk about a full body cut which means an initial crack and a subsequent thermally induced tension breakage.
With the contact-free MLBA technique cut edges of excellent quality can be realized. This method provides for cutting several glass panels in one process step and, additionally, even coated glass can be cut with the the MLBA method.
